Ogee Clocks
Ogee clocks are named after the distinctive contour of the casing. They come in either 30hour or the rarer 8 day version - this indicates how long they will run between winding. They are made to a standard 26x15ins.
E N WELCH 30 HOUR OGEE CLOCK.
This clock was manufactured by the company E N WELCH of Forestville Connecticut USA. Difficult to give a precise date of manufacture but likely to have been latter part of the 1800`s as the company ceased trading in 1903 and was taken over by Sessions Clock Co.
The case is in excellent original condition and is solid wood,I believe mahoganny, as opposed to a veneer finish as is most often found with this style of clock.
The original dial is zinc but the painting of the dial is in very poor condition and so I have placed a printed card dial over the original for the time being.
The clock originally struck the hour on a coiled gong which I have but currently it is fitted with a small bell.
It was without pendulum and so a new replacement is fitted.
The movement has been completely dismantled and cleaned and it keeps excellent time and strikes reliably.
